Berhalter – “Embossed lids never looked so brilliant”

The Berhalter B 500 die-cutting machine

SWITZERLAND • At drupa 2016, the manufacturer of die-cutting machines is presenting a unique technology for embossing lids on the sealing rim area (Hall 11 Stand C70). With the application rim-embossing (embossing is done only in the sealing rim area) the lid is shining brighter and greatly enhances the clarity of color edges. It allows the printing of considerably smaller, yet readable lettering, which is important for product placement as well as for the food facts required under food regulations.

The SmartEmbosser is a system to produce embossed lids and offers interesting opportunities for rim-embossing, logo-embossing and de-embossing of pre-cut lids. This also can influence the productivity of filling and sealing machines enormous. The application logo-embossing and de-embossing gives the opportunity to produce non-printed pre-cut lids with high-lighting a brand logo, sign or writing. Using the patented Berhalter SmartEmbosser technology, lids can be printed with intense color as well as more space for graphics and product information can be achieved.

The company is also presenting a new die-cutting tool concept for in-mould labels (IML) that offers the advantages of favourable tool cost in combination with short lead times. The Label-light punching tool is a patented concept combining the improvements of the flat-bed die-cutting such as unique print-to-die registration and perfect handling properties. The company claims, that the costs for such punching tools is up to 70% lower compared to traditional tool even allowing a label contour correction of +/- 0.5 mm. Further, there is no need for re-grinding this tool, as the cutting components can be exchanged by the operators in order to continue production immediately. This punching tool has been designed especially for a cost efficient production of small to medium size IML label volumes
