Brussels hosts inaugural FTA Europe meeting

BELGIUM • In an effort to establish closer cooperation among national flexographic associations, delegates from Italy, Sweden, France, Poland, the UK and the Benelux met recently in Brussels to decide how to respond to the changing marketplace and the fact that companies are now operating globally.  To be known as ‘FTA Europe’, the new organisation will develop a structure that allows it to liaise with the boards of the national associations, identify the needs of European flexo printers and agree a mission statement and objectives.

The meeting was unanimous that vocational education, training and certification, as well as standardisation and harmonisation were key factors for the future health of Europe’s flexo industry.  By sharing resources, converters will be able to raise the overall skill level of their staff, and the proposed introduction of a European flexo certificate for operators, is one example of how cooperation can help to support the industry across national borders.  The development of a flexo handbook and guidelines, and the standardisation of colour measurement are also essential to ensure that flexo quality is maintained at the same high level everywhere in Europe.

FTA Europe is already in contact with the European Commission to position the flexo industry prominently, and ensure its interests are well represented and nurtured at an early stage.
