NORTH AMERICA • In most label competitions, the converters submit the work that they have executed on behalf of their customers. At Lightning Labels, however, customers current and past submit their own labels to be judged by viewers on Facebook and other social media sites.
Lightning Labels, an all digital printer based in Denver, Colorado, recently announced the results of its third annual label photo competition.
The first prize, a Canon EOS Rebel T5i DSLR camera, went to Sensational Soaps, whose Body Butter labels feature an array of fruits, flowers and scenery. The second prize, a 40-inch flat screen television, was awarded to La Dolce Diva’s Toodaloo toilet odor spray, which designed a minimalist product label. Olde Crone’s Bewitching Bath Soap was the winner of the third prize, a Kindle Fire HBX.
In fourth place was Kao Jai Coffee, which won USD 500 in credit for future label printing projects. Finally, the fifth place winner, Southern Girl Soapery, won USD 250 in credit for a red cosmetics label.
“The third annual Lightning Labels photo contest was full of exciting, exotic and unique entries, spanning a wide range of industries and sectors,” said Scott Proctor, Vice President of sales at Lightning Labels. “It just goes to show that labels are more than just marketing pieces; they are works of art. We hope to continue seeing such great designs and usage of our custom label products among our clients in the future.”
Voting for the winners took place directly on Lightning’s Facebook page, as well as via its Twitter and Pinterest pages.
Founded in 2001 by Peter Renton, Lightning Labels began production with an early model HP Indigo digital color press, a Rotoflex finishing system, and a few people who were just learning the business. The company grew throughout the decade and was acquired in 2010 by Cenveo, a USD 2 billion company based in Connecticut, USA and focused on management and distribution of print and related services.
